“Carbon Village” Worker Housing
The safety and prosperity of our workers is of paramount concern to us at R3. Our site is from Windhoek, so while (fraction) of our workers will come from the nearby Osire Refugee Settlement with its clinic and police station already in place, our Namibian workers will be offered purpose-built housing, designed to balance safety and privacy, individuality and community. This means safe, sturdy homes with gardens and covered outdoor cooking spaces, and large communal spaces like a football field, necessary commercial spaces, and a community center that does double duty as a school and church.
Example of a Hydroform home
As with all things at R3, we try to turn every problem into its own solution. In Namibia, structures need to be ready to protect occupants from both heat and cold, and building costs need to be kept low.
To address these concerns while sticking to our core function of Carbon Capture, we will be using Hydraform blocks made out of Biochar on site. This will capture the carbon permanently, substantially lower costs, and create strong, well-insulated homes.
